The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is organizing the first Global Youth Tourism Summit (GYTS), in Sorrento, Italy, from June 27 to July 03, 2022.
The first Global Youth Tourism Summit (GYTS) will provide an excellent opportunity to play a leading role in the field of future tourism and will bring to Sorrento about 130 international youth from 60 countries, according to the organizers. This summit is expected to bring together youth as well as leaders from different sectors, including politicians, personalities from the world of sports, gastronomy, innovation and entertainment, etc.
The Summit is organized by the United Nations Organization in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and ENIT (National Tourism Agency), Italy, and will include a series of master classes, evening lectures and the proceedings of the UNWTO General Assembly. This summit will further focus on the main challenges and opportunities currently facing tourism worldwide, highlighting the role of tourism in achieving the UN 2030 agenda with its SDGs 17 (Sustainable Development Goals).
It provides a unique opportunity for young people aged 12 to 18 to share their visions for the future of tourism. The Summit will focus on the issues of international sustainable tourism. The event’s program consists of many interactive activities on the Sustainable Development Goals and their impact on tourism. The young delegates will learn how to build an attractive tourism activity that combines sustainability, culture, climate protection, gastronomy and innovation, etc.
According to available data, 1.1 billion young people are between the ages of 15 and 24, representing 18 percent of the world’s population. Youth and children, including all those 24 years old and younger, make up nearly 40 percent of the world’s population, making tourism an attractive prospect for them in the future, both in terms of development and economic prosperity.

Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), said the first Global Youth Tourism will empower and celebrate the next generation of tourism leaders who will help build a lasting legacy by giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to make tourism happen not only in their communities, but everywhere.
The Italian Tourism Minister hopes that this upcoming summit will provide governments with new ideas and proposals on how to improve global tourism and bring it closer to the demands of new tourists.
